Getting Started Guide

Buff Portal and IdentiKey

Buff Portal is the online campus portal and an important tool. It gives you access to credit course enrollment, your CU student email account, campus announcements, semester schedule, tuition bill, book lists, clicker registration, Canvas, and your final grades. Learn more about Buff Portal.

You’ll need an Identikey, or a unique username, to log in to and access Buff Portal. An Identikey allows you to register for CU courses and provides you with access to online services and campus computing facilities. Use your student identification number to activate your IdentiKey at identikey.colorado.edu.

If you have questions, contact us at ceregistration@colorado.edu or 303-492-5148.

Consenting to Do Business Electronically

When you log in to Buff Portal for the first time, you’ll be asked to consent to conduct business electronically at CU. If you don’t consent, you’ll lose access to the portal and instead receive information about how to conduct your official university business offline.

If you have questions, contact us at ceregistration@colorado.edu or 303-492-5148.

Search and Add Classes

Follow the below steps to search for and add classes:

  1. Go to CU Boulder Class Search and use your IdentiKey to log in at the top, right corner of the page.
  2. Search for classes by keyword or use the filters for subject, campus or other criteria.
    • Note: Under the “Any Campus” filter, select Boulder Continuing Education for Online Credit, Evening Credit, Applied Music and Winter Session; and Boulder Main Campus for ACCESS courses.
  3. When you find a course you want, click “Add to Cart” at the bottom of the page.
    • Note: If you see yellow a hazard sign by a course in your cart, it has a Registration Restriction. Please schedule an academic advising appointment to learn more.
    • Note: ACCESS seat availability may fluctuate before your enrollment period begins.
  4. After placing your selected courses in your shopping cart, click “Continue to Enrollment” at the bottom of the page.
  5. On the next page, complete any outstanding preregistration items, including adding and verifying your address, phone number, and emergency contact, and reading and acknowledging the Tuition and Fee Agreement and Disclosure.
  6. When you are ready to enroll, click “Submit Registration.”
  7. If it worked, a “Registration Results” panel will tell you the classes have been added to your schedule. If not, you will see an error message with details.
