Suspended Students
How Continuing Education Supports Suspended Students
Many students struggle at some point in their academic careers. Whether it’s adjusting to life on your own, balancing rigorous courses with an active social life, or personal and family issues that impact your education, Continuing Education advisors are here to help.
The University of Colorado Boulder admitted you because the institution knew you could succeed here. Continuing Education advisors still believe that and want to support you in your return to good standing. We hope your time on suspension will be a short period of reevaluation and renewal of your goals. We value you as a student and want you to succeed. We are here to assist you during this time, and beyond.
How to Enroll as a Suspended Student
Suspended students are eligible to enroll in CE Evening Credit, CE Online Credit, and Applied Music classes. However, the suspension hold placed on your student record by your academic department will prevent you from adding classes on your own.
To enroll in Continuing Education classes while on suspension, you must submit a Course Request Form so that we can manually add you to classes. However, before you fill out the form, please first take care of your pre-registration items and add the class to your cart. You will be asked if you’ve completed your pre-registration items prior to submitting the course request form.
If you need additional help with the enrollment process, you can also email Enrollment Services at ceregistration@colorado.edu or schedule an appointment with a Continuing Education advisor.
GPA Requirements to Avoid Dismissal
While on suspension, students who choose to enroll in Continuing Education courses must maintain a 2.300 term GPA or above for each fall or spring enrolled term in Continuing Education. If you do not meet the semester GPA requirement, your college will place you on dismissal and you will no longer be eligible to enroll in Continuing Education classes during fall and spring semesters.
Summer is an exception to this rule. Dismissed students are still eligible for both Continuing Education and main campus Summer Session courses. You can use this opportunity to continue to raise your CU Boulder GPA and potentially return to campus to complete your degree.

Academic Coaching
Resiliency Program
Continuing Education sees academic suspension and dismissal as a pause that provides you the opportunity to start fresh, and we designed the Resiliency Program to be a path forward in your academic journey. It is a dedicated program for you to identify your unique strengths and uncover and address the barriers that have previously interfered with your success. Through a combination of specialized coursework, one-on-one coaching and peer connection, the program helps you focus on evolving your future strategies rather than “fixing” mistakes from the past. You will have the opportunity to connect with peers who understand your experience, develop academic skills and determine a path that best suits you. Successful completion of the program results in a $1,000 scholarship.
Program Components: This is a semester-long experience designed to support you from start to finish. To qualify for the Resiliency Scholarship, you must participate in:
- Coursework: Complete EDUC 1500: Success Strategies in Higher Education (single-credit class that meets twice weekly for the first six weeks of the spring and fall semesters) with a B or higher.
- Discussion Group: Attend a weekly "TBD" discussion group meetings during the remainder of the semester to stay connected and maintain momentum.
- Holistic Support: Meet with a peer wellness coach to explore academic and personal goals.
- Additionally, you must achieve at least a 2.5 term GPA.
Participating students also have access to peer mentors who are current or former CE students who have been through the Resiliency Program, as well as a structured study session every Monday through Thursday.
Start your journey by enrolling in EDUC 1500 using the Course Request Form.
Resiliency isn’t bouncing back; it’s bouncing forward.
CU Health Insurance
All students are required to have health insurance during their time at CU Boulder. Some students may be automatically enrolled in the Student Gold Health Insurance Plan, and additional student fees will be assessed.
Fall and Spring Semesters
During the fall and spring semesters students are automatically enrolled in the CU health insurance plan if they are:
- a degree-seeking student,
- enrolled in at least one Continuing Education course, and
- enrolled in 6 or more credits as an undergraduate or enrolled in 1 or more credits as a graduate student.
Summer Session
Students enrolled in the CU health insurance plan during the spring semester are covered through the summer.
New summer students are not automatically enrolled in the CU health insurance plan but have the opportunity to purchase coverage at the Wardenburg Health Center by July 1. Payment is due at enrollment.
