Current Degree-Seeking CU Boulder Student

How Continuing Education Supports Suspended Students

Many students struggle at some point in their academic careers. Whether it’s adjusting to life on your own, balancing rigorous courses with an active social life, or personal and family issues that impact your education, Continuing Education advisors are here to help.

The University of Colorado Boulder admitted you because the institution knew you could succeed here. Continuing Education advisors still believe that and want to support you in your return to good standing. We hope your time on suspension will be a short period of reevaluation and renewal of your goals. We value you as a student and want you to succeed. We are here to assist you during this time, and beyond.

How to Enroll as a Suspended Student

Suspended students are eligible to enroll in Continuing Education classes. However, the suspension hold placed on your student record by your academic department will prevent you from adding classes on your own.

To enroll in Continuing Education classes while on suspension, you must submit a Course Request Form so that we can manually add you to classes. If you need additional help with the enrollment process, you can also email Enrollment Services at ceregistration@colorado.edu or schedule an appointment with a Continuing Education advisor.

GPA Requirements to Avoid Dismissal

Most CU Boulder schools and colleges have a GPA requirement that suspended students must meet each semester while enrolled in Continuing Education classes. If you do not meet the semester GPA requirement, your college will place you on dismissal and you will no longer be eligible to enroll in Continuing Education classes during fall and spring semesters.

Summer is an exception to this rule. Dismissed students are still eligible for both Continuing Education and main campus Summer Session courses. You can use this opportunity to continue to raise your CU Boulder GPA and potentially return to campus to complete your degree.

Learn more about the specific policies for your college or school by reviewing the suspension information for your school or college below:

CU Health Insurance

All students are required to have health insurance during their time at CU Boulder. Some students may be automatically enrolled in the Student Gold Health Insurance Plan, and additional student fees will be assessed.

Fall and Spring Semesters

During the fall and spring semesters students are automatically enrolled in the CU health insurance plan if they are:

  • a degree-seeking student,
  • enrolled in at least one Continuing Education course, and
  • enrolled in 6 or more credits as an undergraduate or enrolled in 1 or more credits as a graduate student.

Summer Session

Students enrolled in the CU health insurance plan during the spring semester are covered through the summer.

New summer students are not automatically enrolled in the CU health insurance plan but have the opportunity to purchase coverage at the Wardenburg Health Center by July 1. Payment is due at enrollment.
