Jeremy Smith is an associate professor of musicology and former director of the Center for British and Irish Studies, is author of Thomas East and Music Publishing in Renaissance England and editor of William Byrd’s Psalmes, Sonnets, and Songs. He has recently published articles on the portraits of Mary Queen of Scots, late-Elizabethan propaganda, and progressive rock, and is currently finishing up a book on Byrd’s songs (after discovering that they were sequenced in the same way as Shakespeare’s sonnets).
