Devon Newburn
Devon Newburn completed the Master of Music degree at the University of Mississippi in May 2013. He graduated with a BA in Music and International Studies from Harding University in Searcy, AR where he was taught by Scott Carell. In 2011, he was selected to present a lecture recital on Milhaud’s Saudades do Brasil at the National Convention of the Alpha Chi Honor Society, and also performed Grieg’s Concerto in A Minor with the HU Orchestra. Devon received assistantships in Collaborative Piano and Class Piano at the University of Mississippi where he studied with Stacy Rodgers while maintaining an active private piano studio. In March 2013, he won first prize in the Memphis Beethoven Club Young Artist’s Competition and continues to perform in both solo and collaborative settings. His teaching philosophy is grounded in a classical approach and informed by a wide array of styles including jazz and folk music, enhanced with functional skills including ear-training and improvisation. Devon will begin doctoral studies at CU in fall 2014.
