MUEL 1832 Appreciation of Music

3 credit hours

Provides a basic knowledge of primarily Western music literature and development of discriminating listening habits. Designed for non-music majors, and open to all students, regardless of music background, knowledge, or experience. Students will understand the basic elements of music such as rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and timbre, and be able to apply that understanding to various styles and historical eras of music. The development of critical listening skills will be emphasized, along with the application of those skills to classical and popular music. Formerly EMUS 1832. Approved for arts and sciences core curriculum: literature and the arts.
