Tyler Honsel is currently pursuing a Master’s of Music degree in double bass performance at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is in the first year of his master’s degree, and is set to graduate in May of 2014. Mr. Honsel has received a Bachelor’s of Music degree in double bass performance from Penn State University in 2011. He has lived and worked extensively in Pennsylvania and Colorado.
Mr. Honsel has studied with many renowned double bassists currently working in the field; including Paul Erhard, Rob Nairn, Karl Fenner, Nick Recuber, and John Moore. In addition he has attended and participated in many master classes with renowned artist such as; Paul Ellison, Robert Oppelt, Joseph Conyers, Artem Chircov, and James Vandermark to name a few.
In addition to his current position as the Teaching Assistant for double bass at UCB, Mr. Honsel has held principle double bass positions with the Williamsport Symphony and the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra. He has also been a regular sub with the Altoona Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, the State College Choral Society, and the Williamsport choral symphonies. Mr. Honsel also has a great deal of experience playing in the musical theatre genre. He has performed many different productions with Muhlenberg College, Penn State University, the Mount Gretna Playhouse Theatre, and Kenoebles Grove Amusement Park. He also has performed with Academy Award winning actress Shirley Jones.
