Ann Schmiesing

Ann Schmiesing is Professor of German and Scandinavian literature at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Her research interests include eighteenth and nineteenth-century drama, theatre history, and fairy tales and folklore. She is the author of the books Disability, Deformity, and Disease in the Grimms’ Fairy Tales and Norway’s Christiania Theatre, 1827-1867: From Danish Showhouse to National Stage. Prof. Schmiesing received a BA in English and German from Willamette University in 1989, an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington in 1991, and a PhD in German from Cambridge University in 1996.
