International English Center to Host EducationUSA Academy in Summer 2016

Programs: International English Center

We are excited to announce CU-Boulder was selected by the U.S. Department of State, and its cooperative partner, World Learning, to host an EducationUSA Academy in summer 2016.  CU-Boulder was one of only ten U.S. higher education institutions selected for this honor.

The EducationUSA Academy is a three-to-four-week academic program that provides intensive English language courses, college preparatory content, tours of diverse college and university campuses, and cross-cultural activities to self-funded 15- to 17-year old students from around the world.

The program’s primary goal is to provide opportunities for international students to improve their English skills and become familiar with the U.S. higher education system, academic culture, campus life, and admissions process. The Academy creates a conduit to prepare international youth to pursue higher education in the United States by providing participants with the information, skills, and experience necessary to submit strong applications for admission to U.S. colleges and universities.

CU-Boulder’s International English Center (IEC) will lead the program on CU-Boulder’s campus. The IEC, established in 1975, provides an intensive English program designed for students preparing to enter a college or university in the United States. CU-Boulder was one of only two universities in the country selected by the U.S. Department of State to host the pilot program in July 2015.

International education prepares students for today’s globalized economy and societies, developing the relationships between people and communities in the United States and around the world that are necessary to solve global challenges.
