International High School Students Arrive at CU‑Boulder for Inaugural EducationUSA Academy

Programs: International English Center

EducationUSA

This week, 27 international high school students from seven countries arrived in the United States to participate in the U.S. Department of State’s first EducationUSA Academy.  This four-week English and college-preparatory program will help students gain a deeper understanding of the U.S. higher education system and American society as they prepare for the next stage in their academic careers.  International students help diversify U.S. campuses and communities while gaining skills needed to work across borders, languages, and cultures in order to solve today’s global challenges.  In 2013, international students contributed more than $27 billion to the U.S. economy.

The 2015 EducationUSA Academy cohorts will be hosted at Syracuse University and the University of Colorado-Boulder.  They will take intensive English language classes, receive guidance on preparing for college, live on campus with American students, and tour other diverse college and university campuses.  With this year’s participants hailing primarily from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru, the Academy supports President Obama’s 100,000 Strong in the Americas initiative, which aims to promote increased educational exchange opportunities between the United States and the countries of the Americas.

The U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA advising network includes hundreds of advising centers in 170 countries around the world that provide prospective international students with accurate, current, and comprehensive information about U.S. higher education.
